SYNOPSIS:

In Paterson, New Jersey, Jerry Connors, who is depressed when his girlfriend dumps him for another guy and finds out that he failed another English test, decides to go to a local arcade to get his mind off his problems and tells the viewers that he is depressed and he wishes he was dead. As he walks to the arcade and crosses the street, an oncoming car runs a red light and hits Jerry, who ends up unconscious. As a group of people crowd around Jerry's motionless body, his spirit leaps out of his body and goes up to heaven via a magical escalator. When he gets to heaven, he sees three other dead people awaiting their arrival through the Pearly Gates. The Gatekeeper goes over the death certificates of the three people on line and he gives them a halo and gives each the okay to pass through the Pearly Gates. When Jerry is next, the Gatekeeper tells him that he can't go through the Pearly Gates because his "death" was ruled a suicide and that was not a valid reason for entry. The Gatekeeper gives Jerry an assignment: He will be returned to Earth as a spirit and he has to help a person who is thinking about ending her life. The Gatekeeper tells Jerry that if he succeeds in talking her out of it, his spirit will go back into his body and he can go back to living his life, but if he fails, he will remain in heaven forever. Then, the Gatekeeper gives Jerry a record of a would-be suicide victim. Jerry takes it and does his job as a Guardian Angel and his spirit goes back to the scene of his accident on Earth.

Back on Earth, Jerry's spirit sees the crowd all around his lifeless body. Soon, an ambulance stops at the scene of the accident and the EMTs tells the crowd to disperse and they take Jerry's lifeless body and strap it onto a gurney and put it in the ambulance and drive to the hospital.

When the ambulance parks near the hospital and take the gurney out, Jerry's spirit watches in shock as the EMTs wheel the gurney and Jerry's lifeless body into the hospital. As they wheel the gurney in Doctor Anderson gets the information from the EMTs and tell them and the nurses to take Jerry's comatose body into a hospital room and tells the head nurse to take his vitals. Jerry's spirit watches them and then, he looks at the form in his hand and begins his job as a Guardian Angel.

In a home belonging to the Kaplan Family, a husband and wife are sitting together in the living room and their baby is laying in a nearby crib. In the bedroom of Susan Kaplan, she is laying on her bed in saddened silence. Just then, Jerry's spirit appears in her bedroom, surprising Susan. After the introductions, Jerry reveals to Susan that he is her Guardian Angel and he has appeared in her bedroom to help talk her out of committing suicide. At first, Susan denies this, but she confesses when Jerry's spirit reads the information on the form that the Gatekeeper gave him. Jerry's spirit tells Susan that he will take her to two moments in her life that caused her to lean toward suicide. First, he takes Susan to the time her boyfriend dumped her for another girl and the second time was when Susan failed another English test. After that, Susan's parents enter her bedroom after overhearing their daughter talking to someone.

Meanwhile, Jerry's spirit appears in the hospital room where his lifeless body is in a hospital bed and his parents are standing by the bed and are upset that their son is in a comatose state. Doctor Anderson joins them and the parents ask him how their son is doing. Doctor Anderson tells them that he was involved in a car accident and he is in a coma. Just then, Jack Manson, who sees the grieving parents and their comatose son laying in the hospital bed introduces himself to the grieving parents and confesses to them that he was responsible for their son's situation. He was drunk and ran a red light and hit Jerry and made him comatose. He tells them that he was arrested, charged with a DUI, got his license suspended for five years and has been court ordered to go to AA meetings. He felt so guilty that he offered to pay Jerry's doctor bills out of his own pocket. The parents are happy about Jack coming to them and taking responsibility for his actions. Then, Jerry's spirit disappears out of the hospital room and reappears in Susan's bedroom with Susan and her parents. Susan and her father continue the discussion of who Susan was talking to and Susan confessed that she was talking to her Guardian Angel. When Jerry's spirit appears next to Susan and Susan sees him, she tells her parents that he is right next to her, but they tell Susan that they don't see him. Susan's father asks if she is okay. Susan says that she is. Then, Jerry's spirit tells Susan to tell her parents how she really feels. Susan does just that and tells her parents about her depression and the events leading up to it as well as the fact that she felt left out now that her parents are focusing so much of their time with her baby brother. Susan's parents assure their daughter that the baby needs their a lot of their attention, but they love him and Susan both equally. Susan tells her parents that she understands. Then, Susan's mother asks Susan if she wants to hold her brother for a little while and Susan happily agrees and her mother gives Susan her brother and Susan holds her brother in her arms and the two siblings have a little bonding moment together and their parents happily watch with happiness. Then, the voice of the Gatekeeper tells Jerry's spirit that he has succeeded in his mission and tells him that he can go back into his body and continue living his life on Earth. As Jerry's spirit disappears out of the bedroom Susan's father asks his daughter if she wants to go out to dinner later tonight and Susan happily agrees.

Back in the hospital room, Doctor Anderson and his parents are still in the room crowding around the hospital bed where Jerry's comatose body remains. Just then, Jerry's spirit appears and he magically transports back into his body. Just then, Jerry slowly wakes up out of his coma and sees his parents and asks them where he is. His parents answer his question and tells him how he ended up in the hospital. Then, Doctor Anderson asks Jerry if he is okay and Jerry smiles and says that he is and Doctor Anderson tells him that he is gonna be kept in the hospital for a few more hours to make a full recovery.

The next day, Jon is sitting in a waiting room at another hospital. As he looks to his left, he sees a girl sitting a couple of seats away from him. Jerry looks at the girl with a puzzled look because he thinks he has seen her somewhere before. He introduces himself to the girl and he is even more puzzled when she tells him that her name was Susan!

In Doctor Abernathy's office, she asks him how he is doing and Jerry answers and tells her his story as to what brought him to her.
