Pandora Lloyd is an attractive thirty-something Indian woman with long hair and a winning smile. She is a world-renowned mathematician and the wife of American investigative journalist, Brad Lloyd. Two years before our story begins, their son, Ben, went missing on a camping holiday in Snowdonia. Blaming himself for the tragedy, Brad became obsessed with other cases of missing children, particularly in Wales. Throwing away his well-paid job as a staff writer for a leading American newspaper, he insisted on moving to Wales, the home of his ancestors and the last place his son was seen. To be with him, Pandora left her position at Stamford University and accepted the post of Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Cardiff University. It is the second anniversary of Ben's disappearance. It was always going to be a tough day for Pandora, but it just got worse. Her graduate student and teaching assistant, Ydris Pritchard, who is obviously in love with her, informs her "for her own good" that her husband is having an affair. Pandora sees Brad and a striking blonde having an intimate conversation and decides to confront him about it. Brad denies that anything is going on, but can't explain away the blonde. Pandora packs her bags and goes to a friend's house for the night. When she returns, she finds the house ransacked, her husband gone and the blonde in her bathroom, dying of a gunshot wound. With her last few breaths, the blonde tells Pandora that she was Brad's CIA handler, that he has been taken and that there is a terrible secret hidden in the sacred geometry of Snowdonia - Merlin's Paradox - it involves the missing children and could be the most powerful weapon or a source of limitless energy. Now Pandora is the only one who can find it. MERLIN'S PARADOX is a fast paced, action romance. Pursued by military intelligence agents and energy sector corporate operatives, as well as druids and Chinese geomancers, Professor Pandora Lloyd rescues her husband, reignites their love, and sets out to find their missing son, together. Drawing on mathematics and journalistic research skills, the couple gather clues and solve ancient riddles, as they follow the traces of Dark Age British kings and their mysterious counselor, Merlin. What power is hidden in the mountains, springs and standing stones of Wales? Above all else, it is the story of a love that counts. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Copyright © 2011, Martin John Solloway.
