BECAUSE OF HIM
By Terri Campbell Belle

GENRE: Other, Family
LOGLINE: After the death of their Mother/wife an ailing African American family finds an unlikely angel in their mother’s Caucasian best friend.

SYNOPSIS:

The whole family is devastated, but King is effected the most. As a high school senior, his mother was supposed to be there for everything. All those Sundays in church, and all the prayers in the world couldn't save his mother, so King. Is. Done. "Come on, let's be real...Momma was only 40 years old. She should still be here, we should still be a family, but the one with all the power and all the control, made sure we lost it all". King believes everything he's saying, and is listening to nothing anyone else has to say. He has completely lost his faith in God and holds HIM personally responsible for the pain he can't escape. "Son, how can you blame, or even hate, someone you say you don't believe in?" This is where even King is confused by his struggle. He can't answer those questions, especially if he feels his own are unanswered. Amazingly, as he does to those who are paying attention, God makes his presence clearly known, and King suddenly finds himself an unwilling passenger on a journey of rediscovery. With the help of his father, sister, and his mothers best friend, who refuses to leave him or his family alone, King realizes in the midst of his most incredible pain that God IS real, even when he didn't want him to be.
