SYNOPSIS:

The Holy Week before Easter arrives in a wave of blood and noise. A serial killer is terrorizing the city, ritualistically killing men. And the anti-abortion protesters have decided to stake out a prominent Planned Parenthood Clinic for furious protests all week. These two seemingly divergent paths intertwine when a gruesome package arrives at the clinic. Maggie Cullen, the clinic’s director is not having a good week. The clinic is under siege from the protesters, it is locked down by the police in search of the serial killer and she has a troubled patient who is driving her crazy. Lara McLean is late-term pregnant and can’t make up her mind if she wants to have an abortion or not, monopolizing Maggie’s time and energy. And unbeknownst to Maggie, Lara has also begun to insert herself into Maggie’s personal life. She poses as a model for Maggie’s lover, Nick Glover, a painter with a burgeoning reputation. Detectives Amy Mullaney and Greg Childs find themselves at the clinic more often than they thought would be necessary as the investigation keeps leading them back there. In the meantime, Lara Mclean tries to kill herself, forcing Maggie to play therapist on a deeper level. The anti-abortion protesters step up their demonstrations outside the clinic, fueled by the notion that someone is doing "God's work" for them at the clinic. Maggie finally discovers that Lara is Nick’s newest, flashiest model at the grand opening of his new works show. Lara plays it as if she is the bell of the ball. She accepts a ride home from Detective Mullaney and they have a very tender discussion about the nature of motherhood, the choices one must make some times. As a single mother, Amy Mullaney does all she can to keep life normal for her young daughter Jennifer. And in a quirky way, that includes visits to the grave of their departed husband and father, Detective William Mullaney. Amy often seeks comfort alone at the grave, talking to Billy, seeking his silent wisdom. This is where she is one morning when Lara surprises her, taking her down with a tranquilizer gun stolen from the Bronx Zoo. Lara then visits Jennifer’s school, posing as a detective using Amy’s badge. But Jennifer wisely recognizes her mother’s badge number and rats out Lara. Suddenly, everyone is looking for Lara. Amy Mullaney awakes alone, naked in a bed. There is another body in the room: A man murdered by the same serial killer. The hunt is on for Lara. Her hospital blood tests have come back, proving that she is not pregnant. She has vanished from her apartment. Easter Sunday arrives. Maggie and Nick run into Amy and Jennifer at the annual Easter Bonnet Parade on Fifth Avenue. Nick goes home alone early to start Easter dinner as the ladies enjoy the parade. None of them can possibly know that Lara has eluded the dragnet searching for her and is now waiting for them expectantly at Maggie and Nick’s apartment.
