Trapped in purgatory with Death itself, a writer on the verge of long-awaited success must battle the Grim Reaper in a best of five for his soul.
SYNOPSIS:
Imagine The Seventh Seal meets Steve Buscemi’s Interview, with a dash of Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey—a philosophical and darkly comedic romp where classic video games and existential questions collide in an unforgettable battle for the soul.
Wade Patterson is a struggling screenwriter reeling from a painful breakup and a wavering career. His ex-girlfriend Julia has just left him, but not before dropping a life-altering bombshell—she’s pregnant. Wade, unsure of his path and haunted by creative block, finds his world turned upside down when the Grim Reaper shows up at his door, informing him it’s time to leave the mortal plane. Unwilling to accept his fate, Wade challenges Death to a series of classic video games, wagering his soul in exchange for another chance at life.
Over the course of these surreal sixty minutes, Wade and Death bond over shared frustrations with humanity, existential musings, and Wade’s life choices. The stakes escalate as Wade’s unresolved past—including his fractured relationship with Julia, his unfulfilled potential, and his role in the life of their unborn child—complicates his desire to stay. Meanwhile, Death, taking on the persona of Wade’s best friend Marcus, reveals surprising insights about life, loss, and the fairness of mortality.
As Wade tries to outplay Death at gaming classics like Battletoads and Punch-Out!!, he begins to realize that his true battle isn’t just for his life but for his purpose and connections. Both hilarious and heartfelt, The First Sixty Minutes of Eternity is a poignant exploration of second chances, personal redemption, and what makes a life worth living.

Sounds interesting, @Scott! I think you have a solid logline except for one thing. I suggest telling what type of battle they have.
