THE IRISH FOR LOVE
By DP Davis

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

A young woman from a small village in the west of Ireland tries not to fall in love with a rock star when she is sent on a work assignment to Dublin.

SYNOPSIS:

Bridie wants to revive the Irish language. Instead of moving to the city like the rest of the young folk from her village, she interned at a production company that makes documentaries in Irish. She listens only to traditional Irish music and dreams of making her own documentary about an old-style Sean Nos singer. She does not listen to rock music. When her boss sends her to Dublin to check out an up and coming rock band, she is already out of her depth.

Stinger is the lead singer for the band, Great Waste Mind Games. Almost like polar opposites of each other, they don’t hit it off. Stinger is just out of rehab and Bridie is engaged to a nice home-town lad who has a really good job. Bridie lets it all hang out with Stinger because she thinks that he’s gay.

Bridie wasn’t expecting a lead singer of a rock band to have a deep soul and the swooning heart of a poet and things get complicated for Birdie the more she develops feelings for this charismatic rock star. Her boss puts more pressure on her to “get the dirt” about the documentary subject and her fiancée wants her back home. When the lead guitarist overdoses and is found dead in his room, everything goes to shit. The job gets cancelled, Birdie goes back home with a broken heart and Stinger is left in shock.

Back in the village, her boss got fired and was replaced with a preppy young self-promoter who cares little for tradition. Even though nothing happened with Stinger, Bridie feels guilty about having feelings for the guy. As the marriage preparations edge closer to the wedding day, Bridie knows she needs to make a decision. When she finds out that her fiancée had been seeing his boss’s wife for years, she dumps his sorry ass. Worried that Stinger doesn’t feel the same way, she goes out on a limb. She quits her job and high-tails it back to Dublin. She disguises herself and auditions as a singer for his band. With her traditional sound and his modern aesthetic, could they possibly make new music together?
