When their alcoholic friend dies suddenly, a lovable yet irresponsible oaf must tackle addiction and love while wrestling with their bottled-up grief
SYNOPSIS:
Episode 1 (Synopsis)
In a fading industrial town, TANK, a 30-something barely functioning alcoholic, evades reality and responsibility. He procrastinates at work, neglects his mom (TRISH), and barely keeps his best friend SUNNY, a fellow alcoholic with fading health, afloat. Tank dreams of a better life with MARIE, the new girl at his warehouse job who runs the burger van. But, Marie’s a single, sober mom - a risky match for beer-swilling Tank.
Convinced Sunny’s hit rock bottom, Tank attempts a clumsy intervention where an argument ensues, sending Tank on a solo, booze-fuelled bender. The next day, Marie invites Tank for a weekend walk with her son, a glimmer of hope. That night, Tank discovers Sunny dead in his flat. This discovery propels Tank deeper into the bottle as he breaks the news to Sunny’s estranged brother JOHN.
The next morning, Tank’s hidden vodka stash goes missing which fuels a more aggressive drinking spree, climaxing just before his date with Marie. Sensing something’s off, Marie calls him out, nipping their romance in the bud. Tank, drowning in bottled-up sorrow, spirals deeper. He breaks into Sunny’s flat, drinks in Sunny’s armchair, and listens to Sunny’s last voicemail, where Sunny admits he’s terrified of what’s happening to him.
Episode 2Sunny’s sparsely attended funeral enrages Tank, especially when John paints Sunny as a sorry loser. Tank realises he wants more from life and sincerely commits to getting sober, hoping to mend bridges and be with Marie.
Episode 3Tank's sobriety journey starts strong as he tackles work stress and his depressive mother which impresses Marie. He and John reconcile and plan a fitting tribute to Sunny: a trip to Blackpool to spread his ashes, reliving fond memories.
Episode 4Tank and Marie's romance blooms. After a fallout with his mom, Marie accepts Tank into her home. In Blackpool, Tank can't resist alcohol, believing Sunny would want him to drink. Back home, he then lies, pretending to stay sober.
Episode 5Tank struggles to keep his drinking, grief, and life from unraveling. Without his identity as a drinker, he loses the few friends he has left. His relapse is soon obvious, he is suspended from work and Marie to kicks him out.
Episode 6With nowhere to go, Tank sleeps rough where he realises he must face his issues. With grit and determination, Tank attends his first AA meeting and opens up about his issues, unaware that Marie, a former problem drinker, is also there. They reconcile, giving them both the hope they need.
