SYNOPSIS:

After Alejandra is caught kissing a girl, her disapproving mother, Reina, arranges for her to be sent away to El Salvador. Once there, she befriends a local girl named Estela, who shows her around town. After a party, the two grow closer and Estela discovers the truth behind Alejandra being there. The two begin to fall in love.

Estela's attempt to secure a tourist visa to visit New York is denied. As Alejandra's trip nears an end, Estela will do anything to leave El Salvador with Alejandra, even if it means crossing the dangerous border for the 'land of the free.' Alejandra makes amends with her mother and heads back home with Estela. They endure a brutal journey through the controlled desert that ironically parallels a past secret that her mother never got to reveal to her. Is this fate?
