SYNOPSIS:
Vincent, a rootless, young Hispanic ex-soldier embittered by a painful past, returns to his ostensibly charming, all-American hometown to lay his father's ashes to rest. Urged to take over the family landscaping business by his father's employee and friend, Salvador — who years ago entered the U.S. illegally — Vincent decides to settle down and start a new life on equal terms with his white neighbors.
Meanwhile, Christina, terribly abused by her husband and suffering from a miscarriage, hides away from the world in a basement apartment under the house of an elderly woman named Helen, who longs for her own lost opportunities of youth.
A relationship between Vincent and Christina develops by fits and starts into genuine love, but a happy future is abruptly cut short. Vincent's righteous reaction to continued racial persecution and Christina's desperate attempt to physically erase her trauma culminate in unforeseen consequences for all involved.
