During a college rave at an abandoned warehouse, three friends discover a large crate that has been unclaimed since the end of World War 2 and unleash a deadly half-man/half-bat creature born from a Nazi gene splicing experiment that has been in a cryogenic slumber for over 70 years.
SYNOPSIS:
The Nazis of World War 2 were notorious for their unspeakable medical experiments. One of these such experiments involved attempting to create an army of super soldiers that would take the Allies by surprise. The 1st successful soldier was created by slicing the genes of a bat with a human, resulting in a humanoid creature that stood 7 feet tall and could fly and fight at night using natural it sonar: a light chirping sound that would send even the toughest soldier scrambling for cover from the unseen enemy soaring silently in the darkness above.
When the Allies won the war, the professor in charge of the experiment put his creation to sleep in a cryo-chamber and had it packed into a large unmarked crate. He then fled Germany with his super soldier aboard a ship, but his creation was loaded onto the wrong freighter and was delivered to the US, where it traveled to the mid-west aboard a train and has been sitting, unclaimed for decades, in an old warehouse.
Flash forward to 2023:
A group of college students is having a rave party in a rented warehouse to blow off some steam after a hectic week of finals. During the party, three friends escape to a quieter area of the large building to smoke a joint. While there, they stumble upon the large unmarked crate and, out of curiosity, open it and unwittingly unleash the creature that has been sleeping for almost 70 years. As far as the creature is concerned, the war is still raging and it has a mission to accomplish: kill the enemy. And it starts with these three.
Meanwhile...
Tony is known as a local junkie. Late one night, while roaming the streets, looking for his next fix, he watches as a horrifying creature mutilates a homeless man. He is so taken by the event that Tony forgets all about finding his fix and ends up following the creature around the city for the next 3 weeks, reveling in its bloodshed. As the body count rises, the city officials believe a wild mountain lion or black bear is on the loose and impose a city-wide curfew, but this doesn't deter Tony as he watches from the shadows and rooftops and can’t wait for the next attack; Tony has found a new addiction.
Convinced that no one will ever believe what he has seen, Tony calls his younger brother, Jack, asking to meet him at the top of a downtown office building at a specific time… and to bring a camera. Jack, happy to finally hear from his brother and fearing that he may be strung out, brings his girlfriend, Cheryl (who refuses to let her camera go anywhere without her), and his two friends Andy and Chris for an intervention with Tony.
When the four friends arrive at the top of the building, they are taken aback by how trashed out Tony looks: scraggly, unkempt hair; dirty unshaven face; and in terrible need of a bath. Tony reveals that he has been living on the roof for about a week. They even note a pile of half-eaten pizzas and several restaurant take-out boxes near Tony’s make-shift tent and roof-top campsite.
But the gathering is interrupted when Tony, Chris, and company are hunted into the wee hours of the morning by the terrifying creature as it uses its sonar "chirp" to find its prey with deadly accuracy. The five friends are forced to duck into alleys and empty warehouses, trapped in a desolate and abandoned area of the city, in a desperate effort to survive the night until only one is left standing, alone and tired, to face the terror.
