THE TOOL

THE TOOL
By J. Brian

GENRE: Crime, Comedy
LOGLINE:

A fast-talking, wisecracking - and bumbling - middle-aged Mafia wiseguy goes legit and opens his own private investigation agency - modeling himself after the great TV detectives of the ’80s.

SYNOPSIS:

As the son of “Fuzzy” Franco Marelli, a high-ranking member of Detroit’s Cassini family, Tony “The Tool” Marelli was born into the mob and has spent the entire 45 years of his life as a member of the family. In spite of being socially awkward and incredibly inept (earning him the nickname "The Tool" as an inside joke by members of the crime family), Tony has risen through the ranks as a problem solver and troubleshooter, successfully investigating crimes within the family. But, when his parents are killed in a violent explosion, Tony is certain it was an inside job and decides he’s had enough of the mob life, so he leaves the family with the blessings of the godfather Don Cassini, himself.

As it turns out, Tony's father was a financial wizard, and through smart investments, he managed to leave an inheritance for his four children to the tune of $10 million. But, rather than retire on his share of the inheritance and live the good life, Tony opens a detective agency.

Even though he isn’t very bright, Tony is known as a mafia tough guy with one of the toughest reputations in the underworld but, there is one thing about Tony that his colleagues find secretly amusing: he’s stuck in the 80s... like, totally. In fact, he's so stuck in the '80s that he begins to model himself after the classic '80s detectives like Thomas Magnum, Matt Houston, Rick Simon, and Mike Hammer.

Cruising the city to the sounds of his beloved '80s hairbands in his mint condition 1986 convertible Pontiac Fiero GT, sporting a hairy chest, thick mustache, and a pair of Wayfarers, no job is too dangerous or seedy for “The Tool” as he bumbles along to uncover assassination plots, dirty dealings, frauds, hits, kidnappings, and thefts - sometimes within the ranks of the underworld’s most wanted - all the while, trying to piece together the events that led to his parent’s deaths.

He’s a throwback to the classic '80s tough guy and chicks inexplicably dig him. He’s on the case. He’s Tony Marelli. He's The Tool.
