If it's just a myth, then there's nothing to fear during the 27th Phase of the Moon

SYNOPSIS:

Dr. Ryan Scott, a well respected, uptight, and fixated on orderliness psychology professor is strongly opposed, to the point of obsession, with the notion of an afterlife. So obsessed he teaches a very popular parapsychology class in the debunking of paranormal encounters.

A Hawaiian students challenge to disprove a claim spirits murdered a hotel guest has Ryan off to Kauai for some quick debunking and a vacation with Jenny his 10 year-old daughter.

Ryan is caught off guard when he finds his Hawaiian claimant speaks of local history and the spiritual afterlife with authority. Also, Malia Okalani is young, beautiful and dressed in ancient traditional Hawaiian clothing. She is so contrary to his typical “crazies”, Malia has Ryan flustered, thrown off his scientific analytical game.

Soon after his first meeting with Malia, Ryan begins experiencing curious occurrences and each new encounter becomes more intense and more threatening. On their next visit Malia reveals Ryan has a family secret, his great, great grandmother a church missionary became pregnant. She was sent away to the mainland where she gave birth to Oahu King Kalaunihua’s son. That son was Ryan’s great, great grandfather.

Years later King Kalaunihua’s army invaded Kauai and slaughtered the Kauai King Kukona’s entire family. Malia explained the spirits of the Kauai Kukona’s KING’S GUARD will take physical form tonight during the 27th Phase of the Moon and will seek revenge by killing the last of King Kalaunihua’s descendants. Tonight they’ll hunt Ryan and his daughter Jenny!

After Malia tells Ryan of his fate she disappears into the ocean. Ryan searches the ocean for her only to find her when he returns to shore. But now she is in civilian clothes, she’s dry and claiming not to know Ryan and demands he get off her beach. Ryan’s dumbfounded and after an exhausting discussion with new Malia, it isn’t until Malia’s wise old auntie explains Ryan just spent two days with the spirit of this new Malia’s great, great Tutu. Auntie orders new Malia and her huge cousin Bobby to help Ryan and Jenny get off the island. While picking up Jenny airport power mysteriously shuts down and they can’t fly out. New Malia says their only option now is KAHUNA NUI, only he can stop the King’s Guard.

Ryan, Jenny, Bobby and Malia, head to Wailua Forest to find the Kahuna. Their journey won’t be easy they must first pass through the Koloa Tree Tunnel guarded by the savage Dogmen, then navigate the Wailua river protected by the giant Mo’o lizards, then onto the Wailua River Canyon crossing which is defended by the merciless Aukulele bird like creatures.

During the last leg of their quest they must evade the relentless King’s Guard and reach Kahuna Nui before the 27th Phase of the Moon. When they finally do reach the Kahuna he explains he is not the one who can save them but he does deliver some shocking information Ryan could never imagine.
