A tragicomedy that tells the story of a single mother who is unexpectedly diagnosed with terminal cancer, but chooses to spend her final year caring for her daughter and taking another stab at finding love. Unfortunately, the dating world isn't what she remembers it to be.
SYNOPSIS:
30 year-old Afro-Latina ROXANNA DIAZ a.k.a. ROXY is a mixture of wittiness and naughtiness, she juggles between living as a single mother of a 17 year-old girl and being a paralegal staff at a law firm. Roxy is a protective mother who doesn't want her child to end up like her, and this coupled with work, makes her love life not fanciful. Thick and curvy Roxy is also a food freak.
On a night out with her best friend, SHERYLL, Roxy gets schooled on visiting the doctor for a quick medical check up, it doesn't hurt. Roxy finally goes to see a doctor and gets the shocker of her life; she has cancer which has spread to 40 percent of her body and she has just a year left to live. Roxy is less worried about dying soon but she wants to be a good mother to her daughter and have a man in her life with the little time she has left.
Roxy begins to scout for a man on a dating mobile app she got to know through her friend. The first man she meets is fine but Roxy doesn't like his 5'1 height and gives him a 'bye' on their first date. She finds another man who has the attributes of her dream man. He is good looking plus he has a good job. Unfortunately, he's dirty; the type of guy who wouldn't wash his hands before a meal or after using the toilet. Roxy ends things with him after she throws up on their date due to his smelly hands.
Roxy finally decides to delete the dating app from her phone since she's ill-fated with men but gets encouraged by Sheryll to give it one more try. Roxy gets instantly matched to a sexy handsome guy, ROBERT and they quickly fix a date for the next day. At the rendezvous, Roxy comes to find out the man is deaf and tries to turn him off, but Robert is the kind that sticks. While she contemplates on if Robert is the guy she will spend the little time left with, she gets hit by another bullet; her teenage daughter is pregnant.
