DEATH KNOT, ALL IN
By Kevin Cutts

GENRE: Action, Thriller
LOGLINE:

Thieves hit a casino ship unaware it’s been commandeered by terrorists with a nuclear weapon. The ship is barreling for San Diego Harbor where 1,000,000 people are beachside celebrating the Fourth of July; the crooks can make good on the heist, or try and stop the terrorists…But if that ship makes it to harbor, then all those people are going to die.

SYNOPSIS:

Act 1. LONNIE QUICK has the perfect team to rob and escape a casino ship (the SAND DOLLAR). If there is a glitch it’s likely to come from RICK SILVER, a down-on-his luck former lariat-tossing champion cowboy and Lonnie’s best friend.

Terrorists -- including a brilliant physicist with nuclear weapons expertise – steal an enriched uranium isotope from a Stanford lab. The FBI’s DC office is sweating and has no clues, but an FBI agent from a backwater office discovers a connection between the isotope heist and an ARAB PRINCE who, along with his retinue, is being entertained by U.S. arms merchants on the Sand Dollar. The ship is out of port, but due to arrive in San Diego Harbor for the 4th of July, where a million people wait to watch holiday fireworks. The team gains access to the counting and surveillance rooms just as the terrorists kill the ship’s captain and take over the ship.

Act 2. The team learns of the suicide plot to blow up San Diego Harbor. Rick sees it as the perfect opportunity: they can get away with the loot and no one will be left alive to know they were there. The others determine to fight the terrorists; Rick leaves with a duffel bag of money.

FBI sends a Navy recon chopper out, but terrorists blow it up with a SAM missile, leaving no doubt in FBI HQ about the gravity of the situation. Two SEAL teams are deployed in rafts. Lonnie slows the Sand Dollar’s progress in a clever move in the pilot room, but jets are deployed to destroy the ship if all else fails. The terrorists’ hunt for the gang leads to a set piece shootout on the ship’s disco dance floor.

Rick learns of the nuclear device and reluctantly returns to the ship. Lonnie locates the device. Both SEAL teams are destroyed. DC is running out of options. The Prince is stuffing money in a suitcase and the team realizes that is NOT the action of a suicide martyr. Lonnie and team are captured and chained in the room with the nuclear device.

Act 3. Egged on by the team, the Prince’s LIEUTENANT, rabid for martyrdom, discovers the Prince, money in hand, trying to leave the ship and kills him. In DC, the decision is made to destroy the Sand Dollar if it gets within 5 miles of San Diego.

Rick finds and frees the team. They wonder if they should give up and leave, but Rick convinces them they can’t fold now. They determine to blow a hole in the ship’s side with fireworks and push the device into the ocean.

Jets send a missile for the pilot room just as the team unloads the bomb; it sinks like a stone, but the FBI orders a kill shot for the ship as the lieutenant, dying in the pilot room, pushes a detonator. The device explodes deep under water, shoving the ship toward land.

Morning; the Sand Dollar is beached. The FBI knows nothing about the team and presumes they are dead. Lonnie’s wrecked boat is discovered and the team goes to the guy who found it. In the hull is the duffel bag full of cash that Rick took. Lonnie hands the guy a wad of cash and the team drives away to the sound of Randy Newman’s Let the Good Times Roll.
