The Pursuit of Happyness meets American Gangster in late 70's  Portland  brought to life by Black female, ex-con, Harrie, who resorts to selling candy as she struggles with the system and ex, Big Dee, for custody of their son, P'nut.

SYNOPSIS:

CandyCellers is the story of Harrie Hobson, who, after being released from prison, can't find a job, and is forced to assist her erstwhile pastor in fund-raising. Harrie needs to prove to the court her worthiness to have half a chance to get custody of her son, P'nut. But, but to get P'nut, she must face her thuggish ex-husband and Vietnam Vet, Big Dee.

It is also a story of culture clash between the Black community and newly arrived Vietnamese--a clash erupting on the streets of Portland and in the fields of Sauvie's Island enlivened by conviction and a certain scoundrel’s panache.

In the end, Harrie must find her way to spiritual reformation without resorting to her past temptations.
