The imminent divorce of his parents catapults an autistic, non-verbal twelve year-old boy into his own perfectly rendered drawings of a traveling circus and into a parallel reality where he is bright, talkative, and very eloquent, but must outwit a megalomaniacal ringmaster and the child-hating animal trainer who does his evil bidding and runs the sideshow.
