In 1856, a married, naïve, British businessman travels to India to make a fortune until a nasty civil war subsumes him; inspiring him to join the military while admiring a servant girl, imprisoned for disobeying a superior, and escaping to rescue the kidnapped servant girl in Nepal.
SYNOPSIS:
Reggie Fitzsimmons’ journey through life in India in the mid-19th century reveals a man shamelessly unaffected by the hardships and failures that continually confront him, not understanding the destiny that awaits him.
In haste to supplement his income as a merchant trader, Reggie joins the regal British Army during the 1857 Indian Mutiny. He becomes engaged in one of the most ruthless and bloody battles of the uprising: the Siege of Delhi.
In the midst of the rebellion, he succumbs to a forbidden love affair with a servant girl while forsaking his wife, hastening her return to London. His lover, Manju, tries to distance herself from Nevi Qureshi, an unsavory Indian patriot and her betrothed. During the siege, Reggie is imprisoned; accused of treason for protecting an Indian soldier.
After a heroic escape, Reggie, knowing Manju was taken by Qureshi, follows them to the high mountains of Nepal with a sense of passion and resolve. His life is then touched by a fate he would never have suspected.
