ANOTHER WAY OUT

ANOTHER WAY OUT
By Joseph Armario

GENRE: Action, Thriller
LOGLINE:

A manhunt for two escaped prisoners and the pregnant girlfriend of their fallen partner turns ugly when a small, hungry-for-action local militia gets involved.

SYNOPSIS:

JANEANE lives on the outskirts of the prison where her husband, NATE, serves time for a crime they both committed. She is constantly reminded of her “evil nature” by the people in town and wonders if the child she bares will be a bad seed too. When Nate comes to her with an escape plan, she feels obligated to help. But when the plan goes wrong and he’s killed, Janeane is left with his two dangerous accomplices, DEX and RANDLE, whom she barely knows.

Facing new criminal charges and the certainty of having to give up her child to be, Janeane decides she has no choice but to join the convicts on the run as they trek through the woods in pursuit of a new life away from crime across the border in Canada.

But as they get deeper into the woods, they realize it might not be as easy as they thought. Hot on their trail is a hungry for action local MILITIA, hell bent on proving that they’re not the extremists the media and law enforcement make them out to be. They see themselves as capable heroes that will bring these monsters to justice.

When the convicts encounter an injured militia member and decide to help him rather than kill him, they are drawn into a gun fight in which Randle is injured. The incident calls into question the value of doing good when no one’s watching versus doing what you have to for survival and causes a fissure in the group. Janeane’s insistence on doing the right thing at all costs ultimately leads to her capture by the militia.

Accidentally killing a man in the woods and now keeping a hostage of their own, the militia is beginning to resemble the “monsters” they say they’re chasing.

When Randle is caught by the militia, Dex is tipped off to their location. As he tries to fight his way to Janeane, he uses the skills she taught him to evade and kill members of the well armed militia. When the militia go back on their agreement to free Janeane in exchange for Dex, all three convicts find themselves in peril. As the militia begin to torture the convicts in an attempt to make them resemble 'the monsters they are' Janeane is able to employ the survival instincts the convicts taught her to free herself. Ultimately, she is left to decide whether to help Dex one last time, or to finally put herself first and get free.

The story is told through the eyes of Janeane and a new recruit for the militia, LaVoy. Their two stories become forever messy and entwined.
