SECOND COMING

SECOND COMING
By Mike Johnston

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

Jesus Christ becomes human again in order to prepare for the Second Coming. But he’s a fish outta water in the modern world. And the more time he spends as a human, the more susceptible to sin he becomes.

SYNOPSIS:

The half-hour television show SECOND COMING is an irreverent comedy about JESUS CHRIST experiencing what it’s like to be a human in the modern world. Jesus, being Jesus, wants to be fair when he eventually judges humanity at the Second Coming, so he wants to prepare. And sure, he’s heard plenty about the modern world from various souls in heaven, but that’s a lot different than experiencing it in the flesh. And, come on now, a whole bunch has changed in two thousand years.

Now, if you’re easily offended, you should stop right here. But if you appreciate a good fish-out-of-water story, please read on.

Our Jesus never comes off as a buffoon. Flustered, yes. Challenged, of course. But he’s got a heart as big as the sky, and Jesus earnestly wants to help people. Of course, our Jesus is human, so he makes mistakes. And like so many humans, Jesus has father issues that come out after a few beers. Jesus refers to his father as “SKY DADDY.”

One of his biggest mistakes is performing small miracles, which he promised his father he would never do. Jesus is only here to observe. So each time Jesus performs a miracle, his father punishes him.

After Jesus sees the undue influence social media has over people’s lives, he decides to meet MIRANDA “RAVEN” MARX, the head of the world’s largest social media empire. And, unbeknownst to him… she’s Satan. Raven has the power to disguise herself as other humans. So when she learns the Son of God has returned, she vows to corrupt his soul and then reap it.

As Jesus travels from Los Angeles to New York in a VW microbus, Satan endlessly tempts Jesus, and God endlessly keeps him accountable for his actions. Along for the ride are DUNCAN and KAREN DARWIN. Duncan has been searching for an identity for years. And now he’s finally found it, as Jesus’ first modern Apostle and devoted follower. Karen is a hardcore skeptic. She used to be a local television news anchor, now forced to cobble together a career by blogging.

The story engine that drives the show is the relationship between the three main characters as they navigate the everyday trials faced by humanity. And, of course, Raven attempts to lure Jesus to the dark side at every opportunity.
