A recently jilted ER doctor finds the first victim of serial killer excising women’s kidneys and risks her life to aid the police before she becomes his next victim.

JD, Jefferson Davis Powalski, a local butcher, is using Ketamine to sedate and remove women’s kidneys. In his deranged mind he is searching for the perfect kidney for his ill mother. Doctor Claire Valincourt is jogging through Victoria Park to her job in the emergency department. Angry about being jilted by her long-time boyfriend she almost misses the pale foot sticking beyond a weigelas bush. The pale foot is attached to a naked, dead woman with a crudely stitched abdominal incision. Claire assists Doctor Alistair MacFarlane, the coroner, with the autopsy. During the procedure, they discover the woman is minus one kidney.

Gerry Rosko is the detective on the case. He is reserved, and like Claire, is suffering from the trials of love. Behind him is a failed marriage, and a failed relationship with a local television reporter. His attraction for Claire grows as their paths cross in his search for the identity of the victims, and the killer. The pressure increases with the mounting body count, and escalates when a profile develops for the victims–a profile that matches Claire.

Things start to go wrong for JD. A nurse is waiting for a kidney transplant, but before she can receive one, JD operates. Enraged to find a shriveled, worthless organ, he stitches her up with her kidneys intact. Her death raises the stakes for Claire – now it is personal.

JD relishes the media attention until a gorgeous reporter declares his work unprofessional. He arranges to meet her, but his plans are not for dinner. Sherry’s body is found days later. Rosko is incensed at his former girlfriend’s death but his investigation is going nowhere.
