ROBOT LOVE
By Richard Buzzell

GENRE: Sci-fi, Drama
LOGLINE:

In this cautionary tale about the emotional hazard that AI will present in our lives, a man messes up his romantic relationship by becoming emotionally involved with an artificially-intelligent erotic robot.

SYNOPSIS:

The psychological suspense in this story plays out through a double mis-representation. The lead character is hiding his sex-bot involvement from his girlfriend. At the same time he's also denying the threat this involvement poses to his relationship.

The audience will become aware of his deception and this will make them invested in seeing how his un-masking will play out.

The lead character, Jared, is selected to develop the consent component of the AI on his company’s erotic robot prototype.

Shortly thereafter he re-unites with his former girlfriend and he couldn’t be happier.

When he begins interacting with the sex-bot, complications arise in his relationship with his girlfriend.

Jared lacks an awareness of his own dissatisfaction with his human-partner relationship. He believes that he’s committed to his girlfriend, but at the same time he can’t resist the allure of an ideal partner who satisfies all of his emotional needs.

As his girlfriend becomes increasingly suspicious of some kind of infidelity on Jared’s part, he is able to honestly deny any wrongdoing as he truly doesn’t believe that it’s possible for him to be emotionally involved with a sex-bot.

As evidence of his sex-bot infatuation grows, Jared digs himself ever deeper into a hole of denial. It becomes evident to everyone around him that he’s headed for trouble if he doesn’t acknowledge that he has a problem, but he just can’t see it.

In the final showdown with his girlfriend, Jared is accused of using the sex-bot as a vehicle for his fantasies, and he has no good response to that charge.

It’s only when she walks out on him that he realizes how tragically seduced he was by a technology that could never deliver on its alluring appeal.

The ending is a tragic one in which Jared fails to understand the emotional hazard he faces, and as a result is unable to save himself from the sad fate that is evident to everyone but him.

Tagline: The intelligence is artificial. The emotional hazard is real.
