THE ACCIDENTAL TERRORIST

THE ACCIDENTAL TERRORIST
By Stewart Fergus

GENRE: Thriller
LOGLINE:

A bright young Egyptian woman, with a natural penchant for science and maths, gets involuntarily sucked into the perilous world of terrorism (ISIS) as a money laundering whiz, only to find herself hunted by all sides after its collapse.

Pilot for 6-part Mini-Series

SYNOPSIS:

After 9/11, as society becomes ever more conservative, 10-year-old SHIREEN HASSAN’s life begins to crumble, perhaps no way more jarringly than when she’s suddenly pulled from school on reaching puberty. Nevertheless, her parents encourage her to continue studying from home. She has a natural aptitude for maths, science and finance. To occupy her restless mind, her father involves her in the family business, but always behind the scenes, out of sight. In no time, she brings much needed order to the business.

Later, as a favour to a friend in his mosque, her father temporarily lends her services to a new Islamic charity (again, out of sight). Only when it is too late does she realize that the charity is actually a front for al-Qaeda, then ISIS/Daesh. Despite her fear and horror, there is no backing out.

During the turmoil of the Arab Spring, her world gets progressively worse as she witnesses, first, her brother’s death during a demonstration, then the assassination of her parents. When ISIS’ leader is killed, she momentarily believes she is free, only to realize that she is being hunted by all sides (Western and Middle Eastern) to secure the assets – either for themselves personally, for further terrorism, or to neutralize the terrorists’ resources permanently. In fear for her life, she goes on the run with her childhood friend, Cameron - whose father (unbeknownst to them) is the local M.I.6. Head of Station, and has been watching Shireen for some time.

In essence, this is the story of Shireen’s EVOLUTION from a quiet, dutiful daughter to a strong, fierce survivor - via ISIS money launderer on the way.

It's an interesting idea, but I don't think terrorists will allow a woman to do this. maybe you have a real example to prove it? because subjectively it is difficult to believe in such a thing.
