LOGLINE:

When a young man’s mother dies, he believes he has carte blanche to murder his brother for abusing him when they were young.

SYNOPSIS:

Connor returns to his childhood home in the country following the death of his mother after a long illness. He agrees to stay and care for the property until the family can determine how to divide the mother’s estate.

His older brother Lucas, an estranged ex-con, will arrive in a week to pay his respects. Connor resents Lucas for sexually abusing him when they were young and begins planning to murder his brother.

The abuse led Connor to question and then reject his sexuality, leading to a lonely life without romantic ambitions. His social life is also nil and most people think he’s simply a weirdo. Connor hopes, with Lucas dead, he can lay his past to rest and move beyond his inhibitions.

While working out details of the murder, Connor feels empowered and tries his hand at dating. After hooking up with Ryan, a handsome cashier from the hardware store, Connor decides he’s not ready to make himself vulnerable and calls it off, much to Ryan’s disappointment.

The day has come and Connor’s trap is set. Right before Lucas arrives, Ryan shows up and tries to mend the relationship. Impatient and angry, Connor attacks Ryan and hides him in the basement where he also plans to dispose of Lucas’ body.

Upstairs, Lucas has arrived and thinks nothing is amiss as he and Connor reflect on their mother, their childhood and life in general. Connor tries to get Lucas to admit what he did, but Lucas thinks the abuse was just dumb kid stuff and Connor should let it go.

When Connor is ready for the coup de grace, Ryan, very much alive, stumbles up from the basement and tries to get Lucas to help restrain Connor until the police arrive. Lucas is confused and is ready to accost what he thinks is an intruder, while Connor tries to keep his brother from getting wise to his violent intentions.

Connor explains to Ryan why he’s mad at Lucas. Ryan struggles to understand Connor’s perspective but ultimately sympathizes and agrees to help kill Lucas. After a struggle rages through the house, Connor kills his brother and Ryan helps dispose of the body.

Connor is now rid of Lucas and has a relationship, though on super dysfunctional terms. But isn’t that better than sleeping alone?
