By Justin Spencer

GENRE: Drama, Crime
LOGLINE:

After the suspicious death of his father, the estranged oldest son, who is set to inherit the ranch, returns home to find that his uncle has moved in with his mother and taken over as the head of the family.

SYNOPSIS:

Adam Jones lives on a ranch in Northwest Montana with his brother, Paul, and parents, Don and Debbie. One day, the two boys return from bagging Paul’s first buck to find there has been a terrible accident. Don has been crushed beneath a truck he was working on with his brother, Charlie. In the aftermath, Adam spirals downward, eventually leaving everything he’s known— his family, the ranch, the town, and his girlfriend, Mary.

Ten years later, Adam returns to the ranch. His mother is dying of lung cancer. Over the next few weeks, Adam struggles to re-enter the life he left behind. Through the process, he learns that peace cannot be found by running away from problems and pain. Real peace comes in sacrificing oneself for the sake of others.

Unbeknownst to Adam, however, is that his father’s death was no accident. Charlie killed Don to keep him from selling the ranch. Mary stumbles onto this information, and Charlie kills her to cover up his previous murder. When Adam and Paul discover this, the story climaxes in a showdown between the two brothers and the man who killed the people they love.

The story is set in the beauty of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. But this beauty is tenuous. A raging forest fire constantly threatens the engulf the town, the ranch, and everything Adam fights so hard to keep.
