As a result of a decades-old grudge, an honest marshal finds his small town under the malevolent influence of a traveling showman masquerading as a doctor. 

SYNOPSIS:

Set in 1900 and 1867, Marshal Pen Clayton, a skilled yet unsophisticated lawman, must decide how far he's willing to go to protect his idyllic town, New Thebes, against the encroaching worldly dangers that the new century brings. When Pen is unable to stop a brutal lynching at a nearby mining camp, he discovers that the shocking crime had been caused by a crooked showman peddling the latest medicinal ‘cure’. Pen vows to catch this shyster before he makes his way to New Thebes. During this hunt, Pen is befriended by an itinerant doctor (the showman in disguise) and helps him set up practice right in New Thebes. This charming "doctor" prescribes opiate-laced Cure-All to everyone he treats, turning them into violent addicts. When Pen discovers the doc's motive and true identity, he arrests him. Then, Pen's beloved townsfolk turn on him, demanding the doc's release. Now with time running out, Pen must decide how much he should compromise his morality in order to placate the townsfolk and avoid another lynching—his own.
