In rural 1930's Louisiana, as a storm approaches a courageous woman struggles to protect her family from hatred and ignorance, but when confronted by her husband's dark past she must do the unthinkable.

SYNOPSIS:

EUNA MOBLEY is set in rural Sabine Parrish, Louisiana, 1933. After burying her infant sons, EUNA is hopeful that she may salvage her relationship with her alcoholic husband, ELLERT, a pariah in their rural community. Euna, once a promising pianist, is stubbornly determined to get her precocious twelve year old daughter, Etoile, "out" by insisting she master the piano as a vehicle for advancement. Euna's friend and doctor, J.T. STAGNER instructs Euna to avoid further pregnancies, as she is not well. She fearfully obeys, frustrating her sexually driven husband. Euna longs to play the piano again, but denies herself any respite from the hard work of surviving poverty and her responsibilities to her family. A man from her husband's past, BEAU RAY CLOUD, returns to Sabine Parish and haunts the family as a storm begins to build. Tension mounts when Etoile learns for the first time of her father's past. As the storm finally unleashes its full fury, Beau Ray, frustrated by Ellert's avoidance, assaults Etoile, forcing Ellert to confront him. Ellert and Beau Ray engage in an erotic fight during which Ellert tries unsuccessfully to destroy his tempter as Beau Ray attempts to seduce him. Etoile, fearful that her Mother may be dying from Ellert's beating, runs barefoot through the storm six miles to the nearest town for help. Men with hounds and guns search her home for Ellert as Euna is treated by J.T. When the ignorant mob attributes Beau Ray's death and a wild range of sexual crimes to her husband, Euna realizes they intend to kill him. Ellert returns after the mob leaves. He is aware of the fate which awaits him and asks the impossible of Euna. She begs her husband to run as the mob returns, but he will not go. Euna prevents the mob from taking Ellert. The storm passes, Ellert is buried alongside his sons, Etoile leaves to live with relatives and Euna returns to the piano.
