SYNOPSIS:

In a world divided by two societies, a war has been raging on for over a hundred years between the Cyanians and the Gythens. ALYSE and RAND GREER are former soldiers of the GREAT ARMY of Gythen, after almost a lifetime as skilled soldiers they achieved enough rank for early retirement and decided to foster orphan children to raise them away from a life of war.

Orphans ZENYA EVERSON (10), her little brother RELIK EVERSON (7) live with their foster parents Alyse and Rand Greer and their biological son MORVIZ GREER (10) in the city of Gythen.

After taking on children that the war has left on their own, Alyse and Rand decided to rebuild an abandoned shelter in the outskirts of the city against the advice of the city council who want the orphaned children of Gythen to be trained in battle since childhood. The Greers crave peace and want nothing to do with the war anymore. They secretly help Cyanians fleeing the war by giving them food and water as they try to cross to the unknown lands in the north but in an exchange gone wrong, Alyse and Rand are brutally killed by Cyanians in front of Morviz, Zenya, and Relik. After this vicious attack, the children are taken on by the council and sent to train for battle.

After ten years Zenya and Morviz now 20 years old both become the best soldiers of the city’s army falling in love in the process. Zenya is not only the fastest soldier but she’s also one of the best because she deeply believes that winning the war is the only way to save their future. Relik, now an adept soldier at only 17 hates the war and what it’s doing to the world. Zenya and Relik still have a close relationship as brother and sister but Relik keeps too many secrets from her and especially from Morviz. Morviz – also the best soldier of the army - loves Zenya completely, she’s his best friend and soulmate but the memory of the murder of his parents still haunts him making him constantly look for revenge.

In a routine sweep of the grounds outside the city, Zenya and her crew are ambushed and badly wounded by Cyanians and she is taken as prisoner. She finds out that Relik, just like Morviz’ parents, is secretly providing shelter to Cyanians and during her recovery, she realizes that they are not the ruthless savages she was made to believe and that not everything is as it seems, she also learns about a conspiracy of the Gythens’ to destroy a whole generation of Cyanians. When Zenya returns to the city she tells Morviz what she knows but Morviz believes is the right thing to do creating a painful and emotional rift between them and the whole army of young soldiers that look up to both of them.

Friendships are broken, loyalties are questioned and the fierce army of Gythen is split in half. Pretty soon the Gythens prepare to execute the Cyanians’ children even with half of their army gone. Zenya and Relik must try to avoid the slaughter at all costs and with a heavy heart prepare to engage in battle against their lifelong friends and loved ones with Zenya as the leader of the Cyanians army and Morviz as the leader of the Gythens’.
