A large group of humans know for a fact that the world will end soon.  They create a plan to travel into a portal where they find an alternate version of Earth that is picture-perfect.  When word spreads, humanity begins colonizing this new Earth.  Each group of colonists that arrive witness different versions of Earth's future with increasingly interesting results.  War breaks out as people fight for the limited number of places that the colonization effort will allow.  Sooner in an unexpected way, the colonization effort finds itself with too many people to care of.
