An abrasive pop star tortured by a secret past finds love, forgiveness, and healing through the humanness of a little girl hunted by the U.S.'s corporate-corrupted government for exploitable alien technology spliced into her DNA.
SYNOPSIS:
New Year's Eve finds a brash and cynical mega-pop star preparing for another world tour. Masked by clouds, a UFO over the Ball Drop in Times Square releases twelve luminous, colored pods that float into the revelers — one yellow pod going astray. On the pop star's penthouse balcony, something begins to hatch, not the least, her decades-old tormenting secret.
Left in the sun at a clandestine government facility, another pod hatches, this one blue and containing a man in need of medical attention. Kidnapping the blue pod-man from the hospital, alien-theorist heroes step in and hide him away in an alternative government underground. But energy conglomerate, Raydawn Oil, with the help of corrupt government officials, takes the ten remaining pods into custody and hides them away for their own use.
Raydawn soon finds that a microchip has been added to the DNA of each of the ten people hatched from the pods — a technology the energy conglomerate intends to patent if they can classify their discovery and determine its functionality before the U.S.'s anti-corruption woman president-elect is sworn in. Finding that they need all twelve pod people to unlock the DNA mystery, Raydawn, in a race against the clock, goes public with its intense manhunt for the blue pod-man, and the yellow pod-person whose mysterious identity is being fiercely protected by a handful of the most unlikely of suspects.
As the cat-and-mouse game with global stakes ratchets up, so do international tensions and breakout world-wide protest demonstrations. Meanwhile back in Manhattan, our newly empowered pop star has no intention of letting what she once so cruelly lost be torn from her again.

Interested in your comment regarding spirituality.
Interested that you are interested! Spirituality to me is what makes us one human family -- the knowing that we truly belong to one another. Despite any other differences in ability, capability, opportunity, or human potential, we are all spiritual equals, and learning to value one another as such and to make it our business to correct correctable differences -- particularly as regards opportunity and the development of human potential -- is to me, the Kingdom of God within and/or the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth! What are your thoughts?
Thanks so much for the logline ratings, guys! I had all but forgotten about this script, written in a state of abject despair after the 2016 presidential election. I imagined the whole thing through the clouds of an outrageous migraine, and wrote it down fast with no attention to things like structure (but there are some bomb characters, I swear!). I'm sure there are issues galore, but going to put it out there anyway while tending to the rewrite. Sure love being here!

Pod People is freshly rewritten and polished with a new original song attached. Thanks so much for the logline rating, Juno!

You're welcome. Finished reading Pod People yesterday (as I kept getting behind with my schedule!). Like I said, I love the opening. It's a really good introduction to Lazarus and Felicity's characters and hints what the story has in store without giving anything away. The concept initially reminded me a bit of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, though overall it goes off and does its own thing. I love Annika's name and to me, she is a lot more compelling as a sometimes unlikable character because from the beginning, it's apparent she has her demons to deal with. Truthfully, I enjoy people that are messy and complicated and not always moral. If she were "nice," she would be boring. ;) Her character growth really comes through when she bonds with Felicity (and I love the scene with them drawing together). Although Pod People is somewhat of a familiar alien/sci-fi story, what stands out about it is that it's actually about Annika and her coming to terms with the loss of her daughter; the rest is merely in the background. The original songs are catchy, sweet and authentic, specifically what Annika performs for Felicity at the end. While they are a bit more minor to the main action, I adore every second of Crinard and Twila from the moment their van is introduced. They are colourful, entertaining and the fact their dog's name is Roswell is so fitting. I related wholesomely to Crinard's obsession with Ancient Aliens (because that's practically the one thing my dad and uncle watch). There is definitely more to their histories than what we got to see in the script. Any chance they can appear in a spin-off short film or the TV series? P.S. Would entirely support the idea of the first female president becoming a reality by 2021.
What a lovely and thoughtful, review, Juno! Thank you so much! Annika very much named herself, as I'm sure you get. She is as real and 3-dimensional to me as living person because somehow she's a part of me; to write her is to live her, and her healing is my healing. It's a bit of a mystical process to be sure, which brings me to Crinard and Twila (and Roswell!). Bingo, my friend — they have so much more to give. They are the spin-off I mentioned :)

I think you got a working title with Pod People to sell it, but you could go with Pop People... you catch my drift?
