SYNOPSIS:

Series Overview

THE RECOVERY AGENTS is a hybrid one-hour single camera action-adventure-thriller that lives in

the uniquely unexplored and dangerous high-stakes world of aircraft recovery and repossession as told through the eyes of Ronnie (Laura) Garcia, a repo pilot who repossesses her estranged father’s race plane.

Populated with a culturally diverse cast of characters and a variety of exotic aircraft and locations,

The Recovery Agents kinetically follows the high-stakes recovery of these amazing planes as metaphor for the recovery of relationships long abandoned, namely that of a daughter and her estranged father - a recovering alcoholic and gambling addict who occasionally falls off the wagon.

After losing his race sponsorship to a young Chinese upstart, Rafael Garcia learns that his P-51 Mustang had been repossessed by a pilot hired by Vlad Medved, a Russian loan shark who purchased the note to his plane. Unbeknownst to Rafael, he’s teamed up with Ronnie, his long-estranged daughter, and forced to repossess planes from criminals and corporate deadbeats in order to repay his aircraft loan and massive gambling debts owed to Vlad. In the process Rafael and Ronnie are unwittingly drawn into Vlad’s repo operation - a front for International money laundering, terrorism, and arms trafficking.

Every Season will revolve around a big A-story. In season 1, the major dramatic question posed at the end of the pilot episode is “Will Ronnie and Rafael be able to extricate themselves from Vlad’s control over them, as they struggle to reconcile their relationship as father and daughter?” Every repo mission will require the gathering of intelligence information, planning and tracking down of delinquent aircraft that are sometimes flown by their owners from one location to the next in order to evade repossession, and delivering the aircrafts to dangerous locations or to nefarious principals involved in criminal activities. Some missions are challenging – others are relatively mundane. Regardless of the missions, the characters in THE RECOVERY AGENTS must deal with issues of abandonment, loss, reconnection, and pride.

Tone and Style

Tonally, the series will strike a fine balance between humor and drama as an action-adventure-thriller. Stylistically, the show will strive to achieve the epic feel of Philip Kaufman’s THE RIGHT STUFF, while delivering the diversity and kinetic energy of THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS franchise. The main set pieces will be aircraft of all types from around the world and used in a variety of circumstances as metaphors.

Vision and Themes Explored

The vision of this series is for cultural inclusiveness as a means of smashing stereotypes, and to broaden the series’ appeal to a global audience. The themes explored are love, and the attempts to will (or impose) it when it’s not yet deserved, along with risk, and emotional and physical abandonment. Every episode will have a new mission that will test our characters' ability to work together and to discover something new about themselves. The recovery of each plane will serve as a metaphor for each character’s own incremental emotional recovery throughout the series. They will face challenges associated with their strong personalities and stubborn pride, but unified by a need to emotionally reconnect with each other through self-discovery.
