A crew of young black men arrives at a construction site in an area of Austin that is being gentrified. They discuss the introduction of the Woovers, white movers, the leader BB tells another J-Mal to set fire to the site. He complies.

Craig Barlow (18) arrives at his student accommodation in a crime-ridden area with his mother. She sees him in and worries about his safety.

We meet a bunch of young students, male and female having fun then Craig meets his gay roommate Perry. Craig meets Amanda and Heather, but they are distracted by a bunch of party boys in the pool and wander off. Craig reconnects with a high school friend he played baseball with, Jordan. Craig cannot believe how much he has changed into a player. Craig loses a bet to get a girl’s number, but when Jordan offers her drugs, he gets the number.

As the two head for home, they are ambushed by J-Mal and the gang leader, Marcus. Craig and Jordan are robbed and beaten up. When they return home, Jordan explains to Craig that they live in a crime-ridden area, and it’s the price to pay for cheap accommodation.

Jordan shows Craig all the drugs he sells and explains that he is tight with the building owner BB, a rival gang leader. Craig now has no money and sells his blood and tries to get a job with his professor to make ends meet. Jordan goes to a club that BB owns, and Jordan convinces BB to help him track down their attackers.

Jordan tries to convince Craig to sell drugs, but he is reluctant but ends up owing Jordan money. We see flashbacks to Craig’s childhood, his father had mental issues and threatened Craig andhis little brother with a gun before turning it on himself.

Craig and Jordan get high with BB, but Craig loses control and jumps in the pool ruining some drugs that Jordan had given him and putting him in his debt. Craig wakes up with a girl and isworried that he didn’t use protection.

Jordan once more tries to convince Craig to sell drugs to pay off his debt. Jordan explains that BB has called to say he found the guys that mugged them and with another guy, Jerrid they are going after them with a gun and an assault rifle.

They find Marcus and J-Mal playing night golf and confront them. This escalates into Jordan shooting Marcus and J-Mal telling them to run before the police arrive. J-Mal then executes Marcus, apparently working for BB to remove a competitor.

Craig tells Jordan that he is done with all of this. He gets the job with his professor after showing how desperate he is and telling him about his motivation to study psychology after what happened with his father. He also gets a gig serving in a bar where the girl he slept with also works.

Craig goes to see Jordan to give him some money, but Jordan refuses it and apologizes for dragging Craig into all of this.

Craig and Jordan hook up with some girls but as things escalate and the police arrive to arrest

Craig and Jordan. As Jordan tries to blame it all on Craig while telling Craig to keep silent, J-Mal smiles as they are driven away.
