SYNOPSIS:
A young Christian boy Elek is taken by Devirshirme or the blood tax of the Islamic Ottoman Empire. He is brainwashed to fight for Islam.
Twenty years later, Elek meets the recently enslaved Adora, a Greek woman destined for the Sultan’s harem. Meanwhile, the historically true events of the Second Siege of Vienna unfold forcing Elek to march to conquer Vienna.
To be near Elek, Adora manipulates the Sultan and Sultan’s mother to arrange her journey to Vienna as a slave to the Grand Vizier in his harem. Elek begins to question his identity as a Muslim and as a Christian under the tutelage of Adora.
Arriving at Vienna, the Islamic Ottoman army lays siege to Vienna defended by Elek’s childhood friend, Count Staremburg. Elek’s passionate desire for Adora leads him to seek fame and fortune among the Janissaries and war in order to gain Adora and her freedom.
Elek battles amid the trenches and mines of the siege and during the climactic arrival of the Polish Hussars at Vienna, under famous Polish King Sobieski. He saves Adora from the Grand Vizier’s henchmen.
