SYNOPSIS:
After Luisa, a misdirected 26 year old, discovers that her Middle Eastern gay best friend Nazar is unable to find a sponsor to support his renewal visa, she marries Nazar to ensure his residency status. Knowing full well that her mother’s job is to investigate illegal marriages for Homeland Security, Luisa has risked everything to protect Nazar with this rebellious act. But when Luisa meets Ana, she begins to question this decision. Ana believed she was coming to the U.S. on a three month work visa. Using her desperation to find work , Ana’s captors exploit her vulnerability and force her into sexual slavery. With no apparent way out, she creates a double life for herself as “Maria” the prostitute. Miraculously enough, living this double life helps Ana find the strength to survive her deteriorating body, allowing her to fight for a way out and leading her to Luisa. Luisa takes Ana in. Nazar is against this as it threatens everything they have fought for toward his citizenship. Seemingly, the only person who can help Luisa is her mother, who refuses to talk to her. Now, Luisa must save Ana through her own resources, before it is too late. In the end Luisa outwardly saves Ana, while Ana helps set Luisa free to live her own life. It is a cross between “Crash” meets “Dirty Pretty Things”.
