SAM I AM

SAM I AM
By Suzanne Birrell

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

Life gets more complicated for a shy young lady when she invents an outrageous, opinionated identical twin in an effort to keep her job, ditch the wrong boy and catch the right one in this romantic coming of age comedy of errors.

SYNOPSIS:

Morbidly shy Samantha works hard at holding onto her childhood. At 22 she lives with her mother and grandmother. Teenage posters still adorn her bedroom walls, stuffed animals give her comfort, and a guinea pig, Caruso, is her best friend.

Against all odds, Samantha wins a paralegal job at a reputable law firm where she falls hard for TODD (28) the good looking playboy who refers to her in her unstylish dress as “Alice-as in Wonderland.” She doesn’t know how to deal with the flirtatious law student Dennis (23).

Sam’s outgoing English grandmother BETTY (60s) along with childhood friend Jen (22) do their best to pull Sam out of her shell. Coerced into wearing a tight red jumpsuit, Samantha goes out with Jen and daydreams about Todd.

Dennis spies them in a dress shop and steps in. When Dennis tells tongue-tied Samantha she looks hot, she pretends she doesn’t know him and invents identical twin FREDERICA to attempt to handle the embarrassing situation.

By Monday, everyone in Samantha office knows and even her boss wants to meet her twin.

Betty, applauds the ruse, while her mother. KAREN (40s), thinks it ridiculous and directs her daughter to “grow up and come clean.” Samantha is all set to admit to her boss that it’s all a ruse, when he compliments on her integrity and honesty. Afraid to admit the deception, she claims to be sick and heads home accidentally taking an important file with her.

Her boss, GARY (60s), drops by the house to pick up the file. He meets twin sister Frederica and the grandmother Betty. There is, to Samantha’s great mortification, instant chemistry between her boss and her grandmother. Gary asks Betty on a date and she accepts!

To complicate things, Todd is intrigued by the twin sister and wants to take her out. Sam comes to realize that Todd is not at all the wonderful boy she thought he was when, as Frederica, she meets and falls for DUGAN (24).

Dugan invites Frederica to a political reception as his date. Meanwhile her boss Gary has bought tickets for the event for both Sam and her grandmother. Faced with a choice of keeping her job as Samantha or keeping Dugan as Frederica, her grandmother encourages her to go to the reception as both Samantha and Frederica.

With Betty and Jen present to help cover Samantha’s mysterious comings and goings, a comedy or errors ensues. To Samantha's mortification, Todd is the one who discovers the deception and exposes her for all to see. In a tearful exit, Samantha is sure she has lost both her job and Dugan.

When Samantha gets home she finds her childhood has indeed ended with the death of her beloved Guinea Pig.

However Betty and Gary have been keeping close company and Gary knows all about the ruse. Dugan, having lost a bet, returns the shoe in grand fashion and asks who she is.
