LORD OF THE RINGS meets PRISCILLA: QUEEN OF THE DESERT in a comedy about a Chaplain and three colleagues in drag who read a controversial fantasy story written by kids to kids to the resounding dismay of horrified, conservative parents.
SYNOPSIS:
A 12 year-old, male “John Doe” has been rescued by LAPD from a car accident and is in E.R. He knows what’s happened to him, but the event is so traumatizing, he is mute. After days of therapy and hospital protocol, it’s the war experience of the hospital chaplain, Father Leo, who realizes that the child talks through Tap Code, a short, common science used by prisoners of war to talk to each other. John Doe taps his story to Father Leo and Father Leo interprets what happened to him through a magical story that mirrors his home experience which led to the car accident. John Doe taps chapters of his story to Father Leo at night and Father Leo repeats the story, with John Doe’s approval, the next day to other kids in the hospital. The event becomes so popular, that doctors, nurses, families, religious leaders, TV News, and LAPD are enthralled by the fantasy story which includes witches, dragons, a female god, and trees that mate with humans. It’s not long before John Doe’s story is Front Page and a 16 year-old transient named Eric discovers John Doe is his brother and, with Father Leo’s help, attempts to rescue him from the hell of their own family. You ask, is this a comedy? Yes, because John Doe’s gambit is to make sure that Father Leo and his assistants not only read while dressed in drag to make fun of the villain(s), but to entertain his friends, show the world how you can change bad things to good, and convince his brother to rescue him! Funny? Yes! Sad, sometimes! But, what are good stories but funny, maybe sad? Like life.
