A boy having a tough time in his first year playing hockey finds a mentor and a coach when two of his stuffed animals, Hat Trick and Donuts, come to life. “We are the stuffies that dreams are made of!"

SYNOPSIS:

Nic Mitchell is a small kid with a big dream: to play in the NHL. But the seven-year-old has hit a speed bump on his road to the big league in his very first minor hockey game. He’s playing with and against kids who are bigger, older and faster. Worse, Julia Howard, the girl he has a major crush on (and captain of the opposing team) skates circles around him. When the final whistle blows, a humiliated Nic is ready to hang up his skates. On the way home, his mom stops at a local thrift store where Nic finds two battered and worn stuffies: a mangy cat in a hockey helmet and a monkey in goalie gear. He feels an instant connection with them. By bedtime, they’re beside him on the pillow, his mom having washed them thoroughly. He’s just drifting off when the cat sneezes loudly into his ear.

"Oh, man! What kinda detergent did your mom use on us? Dynamo Industrial? Ow!"

Nic’s amazed as the cat introduces himself as Hat Trick and the monkey as Donuts. They’re not just hockey toys, they’re hockey players who have played in the old NHL, Mexican Hockey League and the WHA (West Bengal Hockey Alliance). And they have advice to give: “Now, lemme tell you how to handle Julia when she’s skatin’ in on you down the wing...”

Each night, Hat Trick and Donuts tell stories about their adventures that are also life-lessons, helping Nic deal with childhood issues like adversity, anger and relationships. Hat Trick lives by his own rule book: six basic principles that govern life on and off the ice. Hat Trick also brings to life other characters from Nic’s stuffies collection, who have very eccentric personalities of their own -- not to mention their own hockey league. Nic's progress reaches new levels when he and his team make the championship game just as Hat Trick and Donuts disappear. Can Nic handle this on his own or is the absence of his mentors going to spell disaster for him and his team?
