THE PSALMIST
By Don Hauka

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

A small-town psalmist gets dragged into the power-struggle to succeed King Dawidh of Israel that has remarkable similarities to a presidential election race. Primary Colors meets Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in one of the greatest stories never told. Will the power of love Trump the pushy Prince Adonijah, or will his younger brother Ithream cruz to victory? Dbowrah the psalmist has to improvise as she negotiates a labyrinth of intrigue and betrayal in this political thriller that proves when it comes to politics by the people, the psalm remains the same.

SYNOPSIS:

Dbowrah has it made. She pretty much runs her town of Timnath-Serah while her father Avner (the local nasi or magistrate) is off at the assembly in Jerusalem. The religious right aren't happy -- they haven't stoned an idol-worshipper or sodomite to death for years -- but Dbowrah's gift for spinning a fine political line with her psalms keeps most everybody else satisfied with the status quo. When she gets a shot at the big time in Jerusalem, she's caught up in a power struggle to succeed the ailing king Dawidh that makes the current presidential campaign look like a church picnic. Dbowrah has to use all her wit and intelligence to stay alive as she survives kidnappings, palace intrigue, seduction by a beautiful queen and a handsome scribe as well as the machinations of Nathan the Prophet, who's just trying to hold a fractious kingdom together long enough to chose a successor. The people don't have much to choose from: the eldest son Adonijah has a personality that makes Ted Cruz look warm and fuzzy. His younger brother Shephatiah has the staying power of Marco Rubio. On competing Royal Progresses to win the support of the all-important tribal Patriarchs, the two princes are side-swiped when their coarse, charismatic younger brother Ithream throws his hat into the ring with crazy policies like building a wall on the southern border to keep the Moabites out. Working quietly in the backroom while Dbowrah's on the front lines is Prince Schlomo, who has plans of his own for the gifted psalmist. The question is, which tune will Dbowrah dance to in the end? Or can she come up with just the right notes on her own accord?

The Psalmist is a feature film written by Don Hauka, TV writer (Jinnah on Crime series) and mystery novelist (Mister Jinnah Mysteries). A political thriller with comedic elements, this satire of American politics will appeal to a PG-13 plus audience. Small-town psalmist Dbowrah’s dragged into a power-struggle to succeed Dawidh of Israel remarkably like a presidential election. Primary Colors meets Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the greatest story never told. Will Prince Adonijah cruz to victory or be trumped by brother Ithream? This comic-thriller shows when it comes to politics by the people, the psalm remains the same.
