FIELDS OF GRACE
By Jill A. Hargrave

GENRE: Romance, Drama
LOGLINE:

A naive ingénue dreams of stardom on the London stage in the 1930s and finding her one true love. She falls into a complex love triangle with her bi-sexual Jewish agent and her insufferable leading man, which ultimately leads to shattered dreams and murder on the hostile streets of Hitler’s Berlin.

SYNOPSIS:

Set against a backdrop of the winds of war in 1930s Europe, Grace Fieldergill, a starry-eyed young actress from Devon moves to London to pursue her dream of becoming a star. The lovable boarders of Wyncote House, a ladies-only establishment, take her under their collective wing and share her triumph when she’s accepted into the brilliant young John Gielgud’s Company as Peggy Ashcroft’s understudy and meets an arrogant, but insecure actor, Dashiell Tanner, who tenaciously pursues her. She finds him insufferable and rebuffs his advances without success. When Peggy misses a show one night, Grace gets her chance to perform on the Main Stage. A successful impresario, Michael Riemer, watches her mesmerizing performance that evening, which changes her life forever. He becomes her theatrical agent, makes her famous overnight and captures her heart. But Dashiell makes a deal with Michael to bankroll his London production and European tour of "Hamlet" provided he plays the lead to Grace's Ophelia. Michael is unaware that Dashiell is pursuing Grace and agrees, which leads to conflicts between the two men as Michael falls in love with Grace. This is a story about love silhouetted against the evils of persecution. Like love, Grace’s journey takes her from the flirtatious bright lights of 1930s London to a grand romance in Paris with Michael, before mercilessly having all her dreams shattered on the hostile streets of Hitler’s Berlin during the 1936 Olympic Games.
