Prior to departing Hollywood, Jeremy Kendal encounters Margaret Waters, a depressed introvert at Bar Marmont. She is a stunning New York novelist old enough to be his mother, and through unfolding events, he convinces her to join him on his adventure; after all, she's pushed her husband into the arms of another woman and is contemplating suicide.

As they drive deeper into the heartland, Jeremy and Margaret reveal their tragic truths from which they run. The journey takes an unexpected detour when Jeremy discovers his estranged father is dying, and refuses to see him.

After much persuasion from Margaret, Jeremy decides to see his father, forcing him to address their shared animosity and torment. However, before they reconcile, Jeremy seeks refuge at his father's local bar where he learns of his father's true love. Sadly, before Jeremy returns, something tragic happens

Sunset is the story about two lost souls mending their closed hearts on the open road.
