THE LINE
By Elliot Dunlop

GENRE: Comedy, Animation
LOGLINE:

After alien management relocates their restaurant to an interstellar city, a crew of insubordinate line cooks secretly plan their escape back to Earth.

SYNOPSIS:

In 1994, Earth’s population grows to 5.7 billion, and the Milky Way Galaxy Council initiates Operation: Save Humanity. Thousands of alien ships enter the atmosphere and transport a percentage of humans away with the aspiration of reviving the polluted world. Somewhere in Canada, a brigade of degenerate line cooks is apprehended hiding inside their workplace Cheech's Bar & Grill (CB&G). Once rounded up, quick-thinking Dan offers the Raider in charge a hot meal after a long day of abducting humans. The alien lowers his weapon and sits down to enjoy his fresh beef burger with fries and beer, taking in all aspects of the peculiar restaurant. After a long-distance call to propose a business opportunity, he returns with a device and places it in the center of the dining area. The gadget scans the place, and the restaurant is beamed light-years away to an interstellar city on the futuristic planet Orbulon.

New management immediately promotes the novelty of Earth food, and CB&G becomes a popular tourist attraction. After installing robotic FOH staff and quadrupling the customer seating in the now four-story dining galleries that overlook the kitchen line, the once cozy ski-town eatery transforms into a systematic mess hall. Dinner and a show become part of the job. On display like zoo animals, the frantic line cooks work their asses off, plating up to feed more hungry mouths than viable. As the months pass, the exhausted humans grow skeptical and, rather than wait idly for their sworn homecoming, take matters into their own hands. But with the restaurant's ongoing success, the corrupt new owner will not easily give up his most prized investment.

While searching for an Action Thriller Drama or Romance, I decided to rate the other Loglines. I remembered asking the community to rate mine and I know how important feedback is. The studio and investor that I’m currently working with needs that genre.

I like the logline, Elliot Dunlop. What are the stakes for the crew?

Do they fashion interstellar spacecraft out of fryers? I like the offbeat, humorous direction this could take.

Elliot Dunlop

They definitely use unorthodox equipment to build the spacecraft Derek. And the genius dishwasher eventually figures out a way to convert the used fryer oil into fuel!

Derek C. Block

Elliot Dunlop that's awesome. When I worked at a restaurant in my youth, the dishwasher had a Masters degree in history. It broke my heart. Wanted him to excel but, such is life. He was a genius and probably could have crafted plasma from canola oil if need be. ;)
