A young con man looking to leave his criminal past and 'go legit' hopes one big score will set him up for good - until he's caught between a lethal tug-of-war between the billionaire he's scamming and the billionaire's fragile sister revealing a twisted family secret.
SYNOPSIS:
REID TAYLOR is young, ambitious, good-looking, rubs elbows with the wealthy elite of Santa Barbara. Like everything in this sun-drenched Riviera, looks can be deceiving.
Reid is a con man -- he's been partners and sometime lovers with MARIA VELEZ since they were boosting cars in Fresno and now they've moved up to the BIG money, leaving a trail of real estate scams up and down the coast.
Lately, Reid has been wanting to leave "the life" and become a real businessman running his own a hotel. He's also tired of paying for the protection of sleazy FBI Agent LARRY WOLF, who keeps increasing his slice of the pie. Reid thinks he's found a Santa Barbara beach property primed for development. If only he could raise the funds...
When Maria proposes they fish for big money dupes at a gathering of local blue-bloods, Reid thinks one last scam will provide the cash he needs. But the event's host is on to him -- CHARLES YOUNG, barely 30, a pill-popping drunk and sex addict, and 10th wealthiest man in CA. Charles got the family fortune after his father's unexpected death while his sister, ALISON, had a nervous breakdown and was sent to an asylum, the best money could buy. Charles had the riches all to himself. And he liked it.
Charles likes being a bad boy, too, so he decides to let Reid in his inner circle, fascinated by the small-time con man's chutzpah. He asks Reid to track down sister Alison who recently went missing. Charles suspects she's come back to Santa Barbara. She's bi-polar and there's no telling what she could get into. Since she'd spot any professionals in a second, Charles thinks someone with Reid's "background" could find her more easily. Charles offers to help Reid personally and professionally if he'll track Alison down. Reid can't pass this up...
But Reid has already run into Alison. She's trying to buy the hotel property Reid wants with a secret trust fund. Emotionally damaged, she's also beautiful and dangerous and has her own offer for Reid. She'll need someone to run the place she's buying and Reid could be the guy. But in order to close the deal, she'll need his help.
What follows is a twisted road of lies and deceit amid a family battle over millions with Reid trapped in the middle. Reid's falling for Alison, but he's also under a lethal threat from Charles. In this sordid triangle, it becomes clear that only one will get out alive. Reid will play every crooked angle, every back-handed trick, every wild card he possesses in order to get what he wants -- a chance to be legitimate.
