PANTS ON FIRE!
By Lew Riley

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE: A newly-hired undercover cop, MATT, meets KELSEA, an attractive gal (who happens to be the police chief's daughter) at a restaurant bar--and thus begins a romantic (sometimes) romp that navigates twist after turn to resolve whether two contrary young adults can survive each other's ego and allow their love-hate relationship to thrive rather than nose-dive.

SYNOPSIS:

Pants On Fire!" is a scenario that begins innocently enough when a rookie undercover cop, MATT, offers to buy a drink for KELSEA, a fetching, feisty lass, who may or may not be 21. Since the winsome lass is quickly and amusingly revealed to be the police chief's daughter, viewers know the co-protagonists (though soon to be co-antagonists) will have intertwining futures--even if it's hate at first sight. In fact, it doesn't take Matt long to irk Kelsea--so much so that she warns him never to touch her again. But perhaps this edict is premature. In a pivotal scene that follows, Kelsea is annoyed at a Starbucks by a super-slick guy who all-but-guarantees her serious work as a major-league actress or model. This dicey pledge intrigues Kelsea but not her police-chief father, who smells a scam, possibly life-threatening. And when Kelsea is locked in the trunk of her car one night during a shocking carjacking, her dad's worst-case suspicions seem to be transpiring. And Matt, who is secretly tailing Kelsea, is the only one with a chance to rescue her. Of course, the movie's title--"Pants On Fire!"--not only brings into play the act of lying--and both main characters accuse the other of being world-class liars--but also successfully foreshadows some risqué dialogue and horseplay. One suggestive remark--”I’d even shave for him”--made by a female friend to Kelsea after meeting Matt generates a smile though one can sense our heroine may well be experiencing some unexpected pangs of jealousy. Plus, the unpredictable script even manages to smoothly fit Billie Eilish's pet tarantula into the memorable ending. Ultimately, "Pants On Fire!" is a funny, cutting-edge (language-wise), credible, occasionally riotous, even thought-provoking (about legalizing marijuana) comedy in 86 pages that will leave viewers thirsting for more--which could certainly be the case since the ending leaves wide open the possibility of at least one sequel. Moreover, "Pants On Fire!" would work superbly as a film or a television program--or both.
