When the DOD hires a veteran UFO hunter to recover an exotic aircraft that crashed in the treacherous terrain of Alaska, he must prevent it from falling into the hands of a hostile Russian force that wants it's advanced technology while his U.S. Special Forces team must engage the militant group searching for the same prize.
SYNOPSIS:
In Northwest Russia, a young Sami girl finds a frozen reindeer, carves off a piece of its meat, and takes it home for dinner. She soon dies a horrible death. Ten years later in Northern Alaska, a geographic research team explores the volcanic Valley of Death. While arguing over a frozen caribou, they observe a triangular air-borne craft crash just offshore into the Arctic Ocean. Their leader, Russ Ryan, files a report of the sighting with their sponsor, the Department of Interior. Ten more years pass. In a UFO research office in the Pentagon, an Intelligence Officer, Winnie Liu, finds a copy of Russ's report. Her superior officer, Col. Rodriguez, recognizes its value and assigns Winnie to "work" it and send a copy of the report to agent Matthew Edwards at the CIA. Rodriguez calls Connor Dunn, a UFO hunter who he's worked with before, to offer him the contract to recover the aircraft. Connor readily accepts. Rodriguez provides more information, but the call is hacked by a Russian Intelligence Officer, Yevgeny Yevteshenko, who captures crucial details. Connor's wife, Midge, also overhears the conversation and begs Connor not to take on the project. In her eyes, he's been away too much and her biological clock is ticking. She wants a family. But, Connor reminds her it's his life's driving force: to prove that we're not alone in the universe. Weeks later, from the mountains above the Valley of Death, the Russians observe two Blackhawks land below with Russ and the shelter construction team commanded by Capt. Bob Barker. They construct two inflatable Concrete Combat Shelters, naming them Sauna #1 and #2, to house the full expedition. As they finish construction, two more Blackhawks land, carrying Connor, a security force commanded by widowed Capt. Jack Middleton, and Dr. "Megs" Murphy, disease specialist. Alerted to the presence of the Russians, Connor and Russ quickly inflate & launch a clear-bottom boat. They paddle out to where Russ remembers the craft sinking. At first, they can't find it. But Connor allows the boat to drift with the currents and they discover it 30 feet down on an underwater ledge. Connor puts on a dry suit, dives to the craft. They raise the craft to inspect it further on a beach area. Members of the team explore the craft. It's unmanned with strange unmarked controls and loaded with sealed packages of a dark powder. Megs analyzes the powder, discovers it's pure ANTHRAX, a potent biological weapon. Jack, his men, and blizzard conditions drive the Russians back once again in battle, but not before they manage to blow a hole in Sauna #2 and a package of anthrax that infects Megs and Russ who fall unconscious. Luckily, Megs has a strong antibiotic in her bag, but only enough to treat one member. Connor must decide who to save: Russ - who saved Connor's life? Or, Megs - who Jack begs him to save? Connor initially chooses Russ, but Russ gains consciousness long enough to ask Connor to save Megs. He injects Megs. Russ dies with a smile on his face. Jack and Bob launch a counter-attack with their troops in jet suits (the Gravity assault suits), engaging the Russian in aerial dog fights. Jack becomes trapped. Connor saves him. Bob presses the attack, forcing the Russians back to the foot of the mountains where the Americans trigger an avalanche burying the Russians. None survive. Jack nurses Megs back to health. A massive earthquake hits. The craft is lost in the earthquake forever and it slips off the beach area and into a deep underwater canyon. Bob, with his men, equipment, the anthrax, and the dead, depart first. Connor, Jack and his men stay until Megs fully recovers. Connor gets a call from Dr. Albert Shamus of the CDC who thanks him for recovering the mutated anthrax. Connor's overjoyed that the anthrax will not be used as a weapon. But, Dr. Shamus is really agent Matthew Edwards at the CIA and he's calling from a weapons arsenal where the anthrax is being stored for future use.
