A former soldier from the Balkan War, who struggles with his past and PTSD, now works as a conductor and meets a mysterious and wise girl during a train journey who pulls him into the past in an unexpected way.
SYNOPSIS:
Wes is a former soldier who now works as a train conductor. We see the interaction between Wes and the passengers, while we also 'look' into his head: his past as a soldier in the Balkan War and his current life intertwine. The past plagues him at night with nightmares and during the day with memories. One of those memories is an encounter with Serbian soldiers who challenged him, after which he accidentally fired three bullets. At that time he was a guard at a camp, so not a soldier at the front. He had to justify the firearms incident to the disciplinary committee. Even during that mission, his mental condition takes its toll; how high that toll is becomes clear as the story progresses.
In the present, Wes meets a mysterious girl on the train, who shows up outside his apartment later that night. The girl turns out to be in contact with a woman who has a history with Wes and holds him responsible for her husband's death during the war. The story ends with a confrontation between Wes and the woman (who is armed and seems to want revenge). Wes remains sharp to the end: however, the denouement is different than he could have estimated in advance. The story contains elements of suspense, psychology, and processing past traumas. The main themes are guilt and the search for redemption.

Incredible premise for your story. However, I'm just hoping the stakes are high enough for your main protagonist and that his story is more than just sympathetic.

Marcel Nault Jr. Thank you for your response. The main character sincerely has his flaws and he finds it difficult to live a 'normal' life. The intensity of this all increases gradually as the story progresses.
