GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

As college draws to a close, a fourth-wall-breaking teen must decide whether or not to confess his feelings for his best friend before their lives take them in different directions.

SYNOPSIS:

As college life draws to a close, Sam Evans—a witty, fourth-wall-breaking teen—faces the bittersweet reality of growing up. When we meet him, he’s worried about whether his friendships with his two best friends, Olivia and Patrick, will survive once they all move away for university. Whilst Olivia eagerly anticipates her move to Aberdeen and Patrick's future in Oxford seems certain, Sam fears being 'left behind'. He’s the only one staying in their hometown—and to make matters worse, he's secretly in love with Olivia.

Sam often escapes into playful fantasies to cope with his anxieties, imagining himself in iconic scenes from pop culture, like (totally not) Harry Potter and (definitely not) The Lord of the Rings, or picturing himself as a detective in a high-stakes interrogation. These daydreams serve as a humorous counterpoint to the emotional turmoil he hides from everyone around him. Despite this, his internal struggle builds as the end of college looms ever closer, with each interaction pushing him further toward a decision he’s terrified to make.

During a night out at the pub, Sam drunkenly confesses his feelings for Olivia to Patrick and their friend, Eddy, which marks the start of a week-long struggle: should he finally tell Olivia the truth? As the last week of school progresses, Sam's anxiety peaks. He wrestles with the question, seeking advice from friends under the guise of writing a screenplay about a similar situation.

On the last day of school, at the Valedictory ceremony, Patrick gives a heartfelt speech that resonates with everyone, including Sam and Olivia. The emotional weight of the moment compels Sam to confront his feelings head-on. Outside the school gates, as the day comes to a close, Olivia reveals she has just broken up with her boyfriend, Luke. Seizing the moment, Sam confesses his love. Unfortunately, Olivia gently rejects him, confessing that she’s known the whole time but has never felt the same way. Surprisingly, Sam doesn’t feel upset or hurt, but an unexpected sense of relief.

Despite the rejection, Sam is free of the emotional burden that’s been weighing him down. The film concludes with him embracing the uncertainty of the future, determined to stay connected with his friends while accepting that life will inevitably change.
