GENESIS
By Simon O'Corra

GENRE: Historical
LOGLINE:

The ghosts of six gay activists in a Post World War Two Berlin library discuss the future of homosexuality, whilst an ex concentration camp gay inmate plays out his own present and future in the same space unaware of their presence.

SYNOPSIS:

A gay man, a concentration camp inmate, arrives at the old library in Berlin, where he used to work. As he collapses with exhaustion and malnutrition and then over time comes around, six 'dead' gay activists, from the 19th and early 20th centuries, begin to discuss together what Hitler has done to the gay movement and what future there is post war for homosexuals. The former inmate never speaks, he is the gay community and its terrible experiences reflected in a single person. The tension is that as a gay man he is not even close to true liberation as is proved later in the piece by a German policeman's attempt to re-arrest him. Will he be able to escape the inevitable punishment that post War Europe has in store for him?

Hey, Simon! I'm intrigued by this already, but I think that you can spell out a bit more in the logline. For example, these six activists are truly dead, correct? I think that you can actually say "the ghosts of six gay activists" but that will spell out who and what they are (and what state they're in) that much clearer. Those quotes around "dead" are fuzzying things up a bit.

Along those same lines: try "post WWII Berlin" so that we have a greater idea as to why theses dead activists are discussing this and, therefore, just what's at stake right now.

To that point: this is already "post WWII" presumably, correct? As a newly freed gay man, why is it important for him to have this discussion right now? What's at risk for him if he doesn't? If he's just discussing the future of homosexuality in post WWII Berlin, that doesn't quite feel active or dire enough.

We get how this COULD be a dire situation, we just want to know that it is & know why it is within this logline :)
