In the near future addiction can be cured, for a price. With a two-tier society, the rich can be cured while the poor are left to suffer. An idealistic scientist circumvents the rules and offers back-alley “Channeling” but at what personal cost?
SYNOPSIS:
The cure for addiction is here. Having discovered a way of interfacing human consciousness, Alastair Simmons and his daughter are forced to offer illegal Channelings to cure the poorer members of society. While the Rebirth Company offer Channeling for profit, Alastair’s drive is far more human. Working in secret, Rebirth are determined to shut down the illegal competition and will stop at nothing to silence the truth about Channeling’s origins. Despite being a founder of the concept, Alastair is a nobody, forgotten from society and exiled with his daughter to a life in the shadows.
Drawing inspiration from grounded science fiction concepts exploring parallel existences across human consciousness. The story explores the concept of integrating human minds while implementing fundamental changes in human behaviour. In this case, addiction. Grounded in its delivery, the concept and settings remain believable and all efforts will be made to explore the foundations and consequences of nature versus nurture. Exploring the origins of key characters, we unearth secrets, deceit, greed, suicide and explore the hard-hitting mental consequences of sharing consciousness with others. Our protagonist finds his path thwarted by a mysterious figure who, in time, he comes to realise is nothing more than his own subconscious fighting against him.
