By Carmen Mosley

GENRE: Horror
LOGLINE:

Sadie Gooch lives a life of wealth, power, and popularity - then she kills her abusive parents. She has fabricated a male serial killer persona to pin it on. Sadie has thought of everything until her world of deception unravels, and she starts to become the very thing she sought to destroy.

SYNOPSIS:

In a large mansion in a suburb of San Francisco, present-day, 17- year-old beauty Sadie Gooch stabs her female victim for the last time. She is kneeling next to Constance and Mark, her parents. She is dressed head to toe in a thick plastic Haz-Mat like suit and hospital blue booties on her feet. Her hair pulled tight into a low bun at the nape of her neck – covered with layers of plastic wrap. With the back of her gloved hand, she wipes a drop of blood from the plastic machinist goggles on her eyes. She pauses and stares for a moment or two.

Flashback to the night before; the Gooch manor is filled with people dressed swanky for the Gatsby-themed New Year’s Eve party. A popular band is playing on the back patio by the Olympic size pool and everyone is dancing with a glass in their hand-etched with the Gooch Winery Corporate Seal. Constance Gooch snaps her slender fingers and impatiently shoves by the white glove servers, rolls her eyes and behind gritted teeth says, “god damn it, here!” She points to the table next to her where a large ice sculpture of a G sits.

Meanwhile, in a police precinct in Walnut Creek, CA, 20 minutes away, Detective Katy O’Leary gets up from her desk and walks to the ladies' room. She checks all the stalls before grabbing a small flask from her jacket’s inner pocket. Katy unscrews the lid and takes a long sip and returns the flask to her jacket. She washes her hands and stares in the mirror briefly then flips herself off before she leaves the bathroom.

Flashback to exactly one year ago on New Year’s Day at 3 am. A mass of police cars gathered with their lights flashing on the Golden Gate Bridge. A hefty white sweaty man is holding a young Korean police officer with a large knife to his neck. Katy O'Leary shielded behind the first squad car slowly approaches the unknown man. “Sir, we can figure this out. Please let Officer Kim Yi go. I’ll talk to the DA.” “Too late for that. I never meant to hurt her.” The man slits officer

Kim Yi’s throat and lets his body drop. The large man turns and jumps off the bridge.

Sadie has found new power and while still navigating her new freedom, she discovers that sharks lurk around her family’s fortune - which cannot be 100% hers until her 18th birthday, in 10 months. Flashback to Sadie's prior abuse. Ten years ago Katy had a brief affair with Mark and Sadie almost discovers them. Katy observes the inappropriate way Mark touches Sadie and the implied imprisonment in their home.

Sadie’s Aunt Maggie is plagued because of her under the table dealings and insider trading in NYC. Although she has always been powerful and wealthy in her own right, she is desperate, and swindling herself back into the family wine business might be the only way to pay off her debtors.

Sadie and Theo are walking a tightrope with their new shared sin and Sadie’s past abuse and trauma make it difficult to connect for her.

Horatio and Carmen and long time trusted employees at the Manor and with the unexpected murders, they discover they have been left part of the fortune. Maggie’s debtors come to collect at the manor and Horatio is violently killed in front of Maggie. Carmen has been helping the Powers That Be in NYC and is part of the plot to remove Maggie and eventually Sadie from the equation.
