"The Xiao family under threat of arrest for murder, leave China for America. Through trials and triumphs, they maintain their family ties when their path leads them to Deming, New Mexico".

SYNOPSIS:

In the Year of The Goat in the early 1900's, a fireworks display is held in Hunan Province, following a display of fighting skill by Shaolin monks, Shi Yan and Shi Guo. A few of the competition's co-workers look at the display in amazement, while their boss, 'Cannonball Fist' Chan watches on.

During an errand run to the Dragon Supply house for powder, Chen is brutally attacked by some of Chan's men. Xiao's son Biyu is also attacked, but is saved by the monks, who kill with their martial arts skills, causing one passerby to accuse the monks of murder. Li Xiao, believing that Chan killed his wife, challenges Chan at his home which results in Chan's death in his burning home. This causes the Xiao family to have to leave China, along with the monks who have been marked as murderers. They all embark on a journey by boat that takes them towards America.

Through stormy seas, the boat is raided by Okinawan Pirates. The Monks along with all but Chen fight the pirates off but the gold is lost during the melee. The Boatman advises them to sell their remaining wares at the next port. Departing with but a fraction of their original wealth, the group, led by Master Xiao arrive in Deming, New Mexico, United States where they make the pact to build their fortunes.
