SYNOPSIS:
Emma Chase, a high-powered sports agent in Philadelphia, is forced to rebuild her career after a major setback at her firm. Now divorced and looking for a fresh start, she moves back to her quaint hometown of Robson Heights with her ten year old son, Tyler. Determined to prove herself as an independent agent, Emma’s future hinges the success of the only athlete on her roster, John Bridgeton, a talented tennis pro recovering from a career-threatening injury.
John Bridgeton isn’t just any client; he’s Emma’s high school sweetheart and the one who got away. After a devastating car accident derailed his promising career, John retreated to the small town, where he now grapples with coaching kids at the youth summer camp and self-doubt. When John approaches her with a plan to revive his career, Emma is skeptical but intrigued by the possibility of a comeback - and the opportunity to reconnect with John.
As Emma and John navigate their professional relationship, old sparks reignite, but their journey is far from smooth. Emma must juggle the demands of being a single mother, helping out at her father’s deli, establishing her agency, all the while having her son being coached by John at sports camp. Tyler in more ways than one, helps John regain his confidence on and off the court. Meanwhile, John battles his fears and physical limitations striving to return to his former glory and earn a wildcard entry into the US Open.
Their shared history and unresolved feelings lead to a series of humorous and heartfelt moments, from awkward encounters to poignant late night conversations. As they spend more time together, Emma and John rediscover the bond they once had, but both are haunted by past mistakes and fear of repeating them.
The climax comes as John faces his first major match since the accident, with his career and Emma’s reputation on the line, John has discovered that he is ambidextrous. In a thrilling and emotional game, John overcomes his doubts, fuelled by Tyler’s and Emma’a unwavering support.
In the end Emma and John realize that their love, much like John’s career, deserves a second chance. Emma successfully establishes her agency, proving her capabilities as an independent agent.
“Sporting Aces” is a charming romantic comedy about second chances, resilience, and the enduring power of love. Emma and John’s journey highlights that, in both sports and life, the greatest victories come from the heart.
